Grace Powell Findley

Mrs. Grace Powell Findley, age 94, of Collins and widow of Marvin Findley, died Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro.  Born in Collins, Georgia, she was the last surviving child of nine children born to Morgan and Maudie Lynn Powell.  She had continued to live in the family home where she was born up until a few days ago. Mrs. Grace was a homemaker and a farmer’s wife who worked in the fields with her husband and was always by his side. Coming from a musical family, she was a talented piano player and loved to sing gospel music.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Estus, Homer, and Gilbert Powell; and five sisters, Gladys Smith, Reba Rich, Evelyn Paul, Mildred Brown and Hazel Higgs.

Survivors are her daughter and son-in-law, Shirley F. and Elder Tommy McGee of Collins; a grandson and his wife, Brian T. and Marybeth McGee of Martinez, Georgia; three great grandsons, Roger, Michael and Thomas McGee all of Martinez; a sister-in-law, Jeanette P. Lamb of Cobbtown; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Lee Chambers officiating and Elder Tommy McGee assisting. Burial will be in the Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Visitation will be held Monday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel. Pallbearers will be Lamar Powell, Gary Paul, Danny Powell, Barry Lynn, Larry Sikes and Keith Smith.
