Maxine (NeSmith) Hulsey

Mrs. Maxine NeSmith Hulsey, 79, of Metter, passed away Thursday morning, December 8, 2016, at her home. Born in Sylvania, Maxine was the daughter of the late Mark and Mary G. Joiner NeSmith.  

Maxine and Joe Hulsey lived in Melbourne, Florida for several years before moving to Metter twenty-nine years ago.  She was the owner of Jomax Barbeque in Metter, a restaurant that she co-founded with her husband, Joe.  She was loved by many of her restaurant patrons and is remembered for her sweet and welcoming spirit.  She was a Christian with a strong faith and was a member of Clito Baptist Church near Statesboro, a church that she served and Joe pastored for many years.  There were many things that Maxine enjoyed doing.  She was a clothes designer and enjoyed arts and crafts.  She was a homemaker with a wonderful talent for cooking and she loved spending time with the her family.  Maxine especially enjoyed spending time with her family at the beach and was known to be an avid swimmer. Above all, Maxine was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two daughters, Jorene Hulsey and Mary Wendy Davis; a son, Joey Hulsey; two granddaughters, Susannah Maxine Davis and Haley Morea Davis and a son-in-law, Russell Davis.  

She is survived by her a daughter, Kim Klein of Metter; four grandchildren, Delaney Davis-Spence and her husband, Douglas, Joshua Davis, Jaci Davis Wellons, and her husband, Brant, and Nathan Davis; great grandchildren, Luke and Brodie Davis and Jackson Wellons, Grant Wellons, and Shelby Wellons; her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Patty Hulsey Jones, and her husband, Charles Jones, Joan Florette Hulsey, Charles Franklin Hulsey, and Bill English; a step-son, that she loved as her own, Jody Hulsey; her nieces and nephews, Daneen and Darren, Tracy and Kenny; and Vaughn and Kristi; the Jomax Kids, as she referred to her employees, Renee, Patrick, and Hubert; her friends, Kim Lee and Pam and Lamar Holloway; and her neighbor, Barbara.

The funeral service will be conducted Saturday, December 10, 2016, at 2:30 pm at Clito Baptist Church in Bulloch County with Rev. Mike Howard officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, 6-8:00 pm at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel of Metter. Pallbearers will be Lance Holloway, Slade Holloway, Ben Parker, Ethan Phillips, Josh Goodman and Hubert Gilcrest. Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
