David Harvey Obituary

David Harvey, age 92, passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2024, surrounded by those that loved him.

Born November 11, 1931 in Collins, GA to Clinton and Lessie Harvey, the second of three boys. He was a graduate of Collins High School.

David started his career with the Air Force in 1951. He married his high school sweetheart, Louise Stafford that same year, on June 13. Upon completion of boot camp, he and his family were stationed in many locations, mainly stateside, but they had one international stint in Scotland. His time with the Air Force ended in 1971. Shortly after, he began an approximate 15-year career with the civil service.

David and Louise lived in Richmond Hill for many years, and in 1995 they moved to Tippins Lake, outside of Reidsville, GA. This would be where they found their final church family, with Pineview Baptist Church, where David claimed the title of oldest member of the church over the last few years.

In his spare time, David loved to read and spend time with friends and family, not to mention garden. David was an avid gardener for many years and often plowed his rows by hand. Although over the years the size of his garden grew smaller, he was still very much hands on and would grow a couple of small “crops” a year.

David recently moved to Metter to be a little closer to family, and was welcomed with open arms into the “breakfast crew” that met twice a week for breakfast and fellowship. He will be missed by all of those that knew him and his sharp wit.

David was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Louise, his parents, and his brothers J.I. and Ray.

He is survived by his children: Robert “Bob” Harvey (Carrie); Denise Morris (Lemar); and Allan “Dave” Harvey (Susie). His grandchildren: Ashley Harvey (Melissa); Justin Harvey (Mandi); Garett Harvey (Caity); Cara Morris; Ryan DeLettre (Jennifer); and Kobe and Zane Harvey. His sister-in-law Barbara Harvey, his sister-in law Lynda Phillips, his brother-in-law Greg Jacobson, and his cousin Vondell McNair, along with many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

There will be no public service. We ask that in lieu of flowers, if you would like to make a donation in his memory, you may do so by sending one to Pineview Baptist Church at  6370 Highway 121 South, Reidsville, GA 30453.

Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, of Metter is in charge of the arrangements.
