Mrs. Doris Hale Cromer, 93, of Metter and widow of James Bond Cromer, died Friday, January 5, 2018 in Metter.
Born in Athens, she was a daughter of James Albert and Sarah Wallace Hale. Mrs. Cromer began her career at B & T Oil Company in the early 1950’s and in 1992 became co-owner and president of the company. She retired at age 80 in 2004 from B & T Oil. Mrs. Cromer was a member of Metter United Methodist Church, where she attended the Senior Sunday School Class and sang in the choir for sixty-six years. Mrs. Cromer was “The Church Member of The Year” in 1997. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club, where she served as Treasurer and was presented the “Woman of Achievement” award for 1983-1984. In addition to other awards, Mrs. Cromer was recognized by the Metter Rotary Club for her outstanding and dedicated service to B & T Oil Company. Mrs. Cromer loved the Atlanta Braves and remained loyal to the team even through bad seasons. She enjoyed singing and was member of the group that sang at Azalea Health and Rehabilitation on a regular basis. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Albert Randal Cromer.
Surviving are her daughter and son in-law, Cheryl, and Tom Williams of Metter; two grandchildren, Wes Williams of Key West, Florida and Maris Williams of Charlotte, North Carolina; and a sister, Jean Basart of San Diego, California.
The family will receive friends Friday, January 12, 2018, from 2 until 4 p.m. at Metter United Methodist Church, with a time of remembrance to begin at 3 p.m.
A private Graveside Service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Athens, Georgia.
