Henry C. Sparks, Jr. D.D.S., 88, of Metter and husband of Helen Powell Sparks, died Sunday, July 2, 2017 at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro.

Born in Washington, Georgia, he was the son of Henry C. Sparks, Sr. and Louise Parr Sparks.  Dr. Sparks was a veteran having served in the United States Navy during wartime.  He attended Georgia Tech and later graduated from Emory University with a Doctorate of Dental Surgery.  Dr. Sparks owned and operated his own dental practice in Metter for fifty years.  He was a member of the Metter United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir and taught Sunday School for many years.  He was a charter member of Willow Lake Golf Club and was the first Rotary Club President in Metter. He was an avid golfer and was known for growing the best tomatoes in town.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter Amy Sparks Julian and his sister, Lavonia Rickitson.

Surviving are his wife of sixty-two years, Helen Powell Sparks of Metter; a daughter, Suzanne Nascimento(Bill) of Richmond Hill; two sons, Henry C. Sparks, III (Patricia) of Warner Robins and Joe Sparks of Metter; grandchildren, Julie Batchelor, Kristin Hammett, Kandice Ferris, Joseph Sparks, and Ryan Sparks; great grandchildren, Payton Hammett, Tucker Hammett, Alyssa Julian, Evelyn Mae Ferris, and John Henry Ferris; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 4 until 6 p.m. Tuesday at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the graveside in Lake Cemetery.
