James Ralph Hargraves, 90, of Lexsy and husband of the late Joyce Hargraves died early Friday, August 25, 2017, at Cedar Plantation Assisted Living.

Born in Aline, Georgia he was a son of Anthony and Eunice Youmans Hargraves. He moved to Eastman in 1985 and lived there for 32 years before returning to Lexsy four years ago.  Mr. Hargraves was a member of the First Baptist Church of Swainsboro in years past and attended Southside Baptist Church in later years.  He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Merchant Marines who were some of the first responders for relief at Pearl Harbor.  Mr. Hargraves was self-employed having owned and operated several businesses over the years.  He owned Massey Furgeson Dealerships in both Swainsboro and Lyons, A and R Tractor Company, built and owned Swainsboro Nursing Home for many years, and later ran his own Real Estate Company.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Charlotte Ann Hargraves; his second wife, Joyce Hargraves; three brothers, Don Hargraves, Jerry Hargraves, and Lamar Hargraves; his sister, Betty Sue Parrish; and his son-in-law, Jack Edenfield.

Surviving are two daughters, Teresa Ann Edenfield and Melissa Peebles (Jeff); grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; Austin Peebles (Cearra), Daylen Peebles, Claira Peebles, Sierra Peebles (Matt), Kristi Stevens (Glenn), Jonathan Stevens (Angel), Josi Collins (Ned) ,Jamie Edenfield (Lisa), Brianna Edenfield (Lance,) Lora Layne Edenfield, Blake Edenfield, Mandi Fisher (Roy), Al Fisher (Brandi), Tilly Fisher; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held 11 a.m., Monday, August 28, 2017 at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel.  Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour on Monday.

Interment will be in New Hope Church Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Lexsy.

Pallbearers will be Austin Peebles, Jonathan Stevens, Blake Edenfield, Ned Collins, Matt Peebles, Lance Edenfield, and Brent Youmans.
