William Porter Obituary

William Clayton Porter, 89, of Metter and formerly of Savannah and husband of the late Adelle Ann Weed Porter, died Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at his residence. 

Born in Montevideo, Minnesota he was the son of Robert J. Porter and Freda M. Hall.  Mr. Porter lived most of his life in Savannah before moving to Metter several years ago.  He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served in World War II.  Mr. Porter worked for the Corps of Engineers in Savannah as Chief of Planning and retired in 1986.  He enjoyed playing golf and was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves.  In addition to his wife, Mr. Porter was preceded in death by a son, William C “Bill” Porter.

Surviving are his children, Leigh Ann Wu (Gilbert) of Powder Springs, Robert Thomas Porter (Karen) of Bloomingdale, John Scott Porter (Tammy) of Richmond Hill, Daniel Frank Porter (Katheryn) of Metter, Stacia Lynn Blackmore (Johnny Lee) of Springfield, Paige Lee Rutherford (Bradlee) of Bluffton, South Carolina, and James Allen Porter (Susan) of Metter; sister, Lovey Smith of Billings Montana; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 2 o’clock in the afternoon, Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel followed by a gathering at Mr. Porter’s residence at 1580 Mallard Road, Cobbtown, Georgia  30420.
