Barbara Sue Oliver

Barbara Sue Oliver, age 76, of Metter, passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at Ogeechee Area Hospice.

Sue was born and raised in Metter, where she spent her formative years and graduated from Metter High School in 1968. Following graduation, she moved to the Savannah area and began a long career with Union Camp, later International Paper. In 2002, when her position was relocated to Mississippi, Barbara made Mississippi her home and remained there until her retirement in 2015. Shortly thereafter, she returned to Metter, where she lived for the remainder of her life.

Sue found great joy in cooking, especially preparing meals for family and friends. She also enjoyed reading, spending time with her loved ones, and caring for her pets. She will be remembered for her generous spirit, kind heart, and the love she shared with those around her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earnest “Spot” Oliver and Roberta “Bobbie” Steele Oliver; brother, Carlton Oliver; and her nieces and nephews, Shaun Brant, Braxton Oliver, Tess Oliver, and Amy Blackburn.

Sue is survived by her sisters, Ann (Eddie) Shaw, Kay (Mike) Donaldson, Peggy (Tommy) Brant, Rhonda (Ryan) Jones, and Christy Blackburn; her brothers, Ricky (Barbara) Oliver and Bruce (Carolyn) Oliver; her sister-in-law, Jan Oliver; and her very special longtime friend, Deirdre Burford, several nieces and nephews, along with many other extended family members and friends who will cherish her memory.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in honor of Sue’s memory.
