Carolyn Helen Durden Wright Brown

Carolyn Helen Durden Wright Brown, of Metter, passed away early Wednesday morning at Community Hospice in Vidalia.

She was born February 18, 1929, to Willie and Mamie Braddy Durden. She grew up in Oak Park and later on a farm in Metter during a time when neither home had running water, indoor plumbing, or electricity. The homes were heated by fireplaces, and she learned to appreciate the simple things in life.

Mrs. Carolyn was a founding member of New Life Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir. She was a retired bookkeeper, having worked for Wright and Lanier Feed and Seed. For many years she could be found selling fertilizer and seed behind the counter at Wright and Lanier in downtown Metter. She was the secretary/bookkeeper and later co-owner with Frank Lanier, (deceased). After the business was sold, she kept herself busy. She would often say the secret of life is, “To just keep going and be active”.

She enjoyed traveling, flower gardening, singing solos and trios at church, visiting with friends and family, attending church, and decorating for Christmas. She also loved remodeling and rearranging furniture and took great pleasure in making her home beautiful and welcoming.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Carolyn was preceded in death by her first husband, Pat Wright; her second husband, W.L. “Buster” Brown; her sisters, Evelyn Wilkes and Sarah Arnold; and her brother, Cecil Pat Durden.

She is survived by her sons, Larry Wright (Beverly) and Billy Wright; her brother, Billy Durden (Victoria); her grandchildren, Melanie Foskey (Mike Skinner), Monica Kemp, Michelle Wright, Spence Wright (Sara), and Casey Hudson; her great-grandchildren, Dustin Foskey (Becky), Dylan Foskey (Mary), Leiann Kemp, Alex Kemp, Aubri Stevenson (Taylor), Jason Kemp, Lilli Snell, Trevor Ellis, Blakely Wright, Evie Wright, and Lenny Hudson; her great-great-grandchildren, Riordan Foskey and Asher Wilkinson; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 2 o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at New Life Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 o’clock at the church on Saturday.

Interment will follow at Lake Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Spence Wright, Dustin Foskey, Dylan Foskey, Trevor Ellis, Jason Kemp, and Alex Kemp.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jarrel Daughtry, Billy Denham, Lee Frinks, Andy Holland, Al Bland, Mike Holland, Ned Gross, Toby Washinger, Randall Cooper, Ronnie Medlock, and Randy Cannady.

Anderson-Newman Funeral Homes, Kennedy-Hooks Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.
