David Marrion Hinely

Anderson-Newman Funeral Homes, Kennedy-Hooks Chapel of Metter, GA announces the passing of David Marrion Hinely, age 79, of Charlotte, NC. Mr. Hinely was the son of the late Earl and Christine Dubose Hinely and was a native of Savannah, GA. He was a resident of Appling County in Baxley, GA for thirty years serving as career sales agent with Georgia Farm Bureau Insurance Company and Southern Farm Bureau Insurance Company from 1980 through 2010.

He was a 1965 graduate of Lee Academy in Cleveland, Tennessee where he earned the Eagle Scout Award during his senior year of high school. He graduated from Lee University in 1969 in Cleveland, TN earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Science with further studies in Marine Biology at Savannah State University in Savannah, GA.

Mr. Hinely earned the designation of Life Underwriting Training Council Fellow in 1996 and was an All Star and Round Table winner with Southern Farm Bureau Insurance Company through his thirty-year career. Following retirement he made Charlotte, North Carolina home, where he was a member of Central Church in Charlotte, NC.

Known for his great sense of humor and storytelling ability, two of his great pleasures were fishing and photography. Always a student of the Word of God, Mr. Hinely taught bible classes every Sunday at various churches during his thirty-year tenure in Appling County, as well as his time in Charlotte. Compassion, generosity and dependability were key components of his personality, living a life that mattered in the truest sense.

Mr. Hinely is survived by his wife, Janice Whitfield Hinely; a daughter, Amorette Hinely Ryan and son-in-law Justin Ryan; and grandson, Preston David Reid, all of Charlotte, NC. Also surviving are a daughter and grandson, Tasha and Bradley Morin, of Dearborn, Michigan. Several beloved family members survive, including nieces Kristen Whitfield Mosley (Allen) and Melissa Whitfield Porter (Howard); brother- and sisters-in-law Bennett (Linda) Whitfield and Sandra Whitfield, all of Twin City, GA. Several great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.

Memorial services will be held at Anderson-Newman Funeral Homes, Kennedy-Hooks Chapel, of Metter, on Friday, October 9, 2026. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m., with the memorial service at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Antioch Cemetery in Twin City, GA.

Officiating ministers will be Pastor Lamar Lee of Baxley, GA and Chip (Robert) Woodruff of Nahunta, GA.
