Georgia Sharpe Akins
Georgia Sharpe Akins, 92, passed away on July 22, 2026, at her home in Savannah while under the care of hospice.
Mrs. Akins was born on November 4, 1933, in Candler County to the late John Thomas Sharpe and Annie Mae Green Sharpe. She attended Metter High School before graduating from Collins High School. Early in her career, she worked as a switchboard operator for the telephone company in Savannah, whose offices were located off Bull Street. Following the birth of her first child, she devoted herself to raising her family.
Mrs. Akins was a faithful member of Evergreen Baptist Church and later Faith Primitive Baptist Church in Savannah. She loved gospel music and, during her years at Evergreen Baptist Church, sang in the church choir. She also enjoyed bluegrass music, was an exceptional cook, and found great joy in preparing meals for her family.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tim Lawton Akins.
She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Akins Canady and her husband, Greg, and Patricia Akins; her grandchildren, Molly West and her husband, Travis, and Daniel Canady; her sister, Betty Jean Wheeler; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 27, 2026, from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel.
The funeral service will be held at 3 o’clock in the afternoon on Monday, July 27, 2026 at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel.
Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
