Jeannean “Oma” Duke Walton died April 29, 2025, at her home, of colon cancer. She was born December 4, 1935, at home in Candler County to Jack and Hazel McGauley.
She attended Pulaski School and graduated from Metter High School in 1952. Shortly afterwards, Mom moved to Savannah, where she worked and raised her three children.
Oma enjoyed life. She loved to tell a joke and get others to laugh, she loved visiting, playing poker, bowling, crabbing, Tybee Beach and pulling a prank.
In the 80s, Mom and her husband Ernie moved back to Metter, where she took care of her parents, enjoyed riding lawnmowers and exposing her grandchildren to country life.
Mom is preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Hazel McGauley; brother, Jerry McGauley; and daughter, Dixie Akers.
Survivors include her daughter, Jennifer Smart (Hank); son, Eddie Clark-Duke (Clint); Granddaughters, Erin Akers and Caroline Smart; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, from 5-7 PM at Kennedy Funeral Home, Hooks Chapel in Metter.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 11 AM at Metter Primitive Baptist Church.
Kennedy Funeral Home, Hooks Chapel, of Metter is entrusted with all arrangements.
