Jimmy M Ginn

James (Jimmy) Medric Ginn, 81, passed away peacefully and entered eternal rest on August 10, 2026 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA. He was a loving and loved partner, friend, and family member and will be remembered by every person fortunate enough to know him. 

Jimmy was born on October 12, 1944, in Statesboro, Georgia, and was the second of three children born to M.E. and Margaret Ginn. After graduating from Statesboro High School, Jimmy attended Georgia Southern College and subsequently enlisted in the Marine Corp Reserves. Jimmy and his brother, Jere, grew up working in the family business, The Ginn Company, which was founded by their father in 1945. In his early twenties, Jimmy took over the business and served as its President and Chief Executive Officer for the rest of the company’s life. Under Jimmy’s leadership, The Ginn Company became one of the region’s premier steel construction firms and one of the longest-running family-owned businesses in Bulloch County history. 

Jimmy’s time on this earth, characterized by a wide variety of interests, appetites, and curiosities, provides an example of a life richly-lived. An avid sportsman and outdoorsman, Jimmy gained a reputation as one of the region’s most-accomplished hunters and fishermen. He enjoyed hunting deer, wild boar, turkey, dove, and ducks, and was just as well-heeled at saltwater (inshore and deep sea) and freshwater angling. In 1980, Jimmy caught a record-breaking Red Porgy in the Atlantic Ocean. He held the record until the time of his death. Jimmy was a longtime member of The Portal Hunting club, with which he was actively involved, and enjoyed hosting Wednesday night supper clubs, where friends and fellow sportsmen would gather at Jimmy’s barn for food and fellowship. 

A passionate motorsports hobbyist, Jimmy collected cars and motorcycles, and was particularly proud of his two vintage Morgans. In 2024, Jimmy traveled to England to tour the Morgan factory and drive a custom route through the English and Welsh countrysides. Alongside his loving partner of seventeen years, Mary Jones, Jimmy traveled widely and enthusiastically, journeying across the United States and on to France, Monaco, Iceland, Greenland, and beyond. Faith played an important role in Jimmy’s life. He was an active member of First Baptist Church in Statesboro and served as an usher and participated in Sunday school.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his wife, Cecilia M. Ginn. his parents, M.E. and Margaret Ginn, and his brother, Jere Ginn. 

Jimmy is survived by his sister, Marie Ginn Sheets, his partner, Mary Jones, his nephew, Hunter Ginn, his sister-in-law, Claire Ginn, and his many cousins. 

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Portal Hunting Club and the Mill Creek Culinary Supper Club. 

A celebration of Jimmy’s life will be held at First Baptist Church Statesboro at 2:00 P.M.on Tuesday, August 18, 2026 with Dr. John Waters officiating. 

The family will receives friends following the services. All who knew him are invited to attend.
