Martha Yacks

Martha Ann Yacks, a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 10th, 2026, at the age of 80 in Metter, Georgia. Born on Friday, June 7th, 1946, in Odum, Georgia, Martha lived a life filled with love, laughter, and dedication to her family and friends. 

Martha spent many years serving her community as a waitress and cook at Myers Grocery Store Deli in Essexville, MI, where she was known for her warm smile and exceptional service. Her sassy demeanor and great sense of humor endeared her to everyone she met, making her a treasured presence in the lives of many. She was a passionate collector of coffee cups, each one a cherished memory of her travels with her late husband, Leon A. Yacks. Together, they explored many places and captured countless memories through photographs. Martha's love for her cats was a testament to her nurturing spirit and gentle nature. 

Martha is survived by her loving family: two sons, George Anthony Kirkland (Francis) of Odum, GA, and Christopher M. Branch (Shirley) of Jesup, GA; three daughters, Billie E. Priest (Robert) of Auburn, MI, Barbara Ann Branch of Essexville, MI, and Terri Lee Hardiman (William) of Metter, GA. She is also survived by her brother, Clarence Nettles (MaryAnn) of Jesup, GA; and sisters, Sadie Jackson of Guyton, GA, and Eulalah Faye Guass of Jesup, GA. Her legacy lives on through her 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, and her extended family, all of whom she loved dearly. 

Preceding her in death were her parents, George Solomon Nettles Sr. and EulaLah Faye Nettles, her husband, Leon A. Yacks, and her siblings, John Henry Nettles, George S. Nettles Jr., James Walter Nettles, Joseph Monroe Nettles, and Louise Evonne Blackson.

A private memorial service will be held at a later time, allowing family and friends to gather in remembrance of Martha's extraordinary life. 

Arrangements have been entrusted to Kennedy Funeral Homes-Metter. 

Martha Ann Yacks touched the lives of many with her warmth, humor, and kindness, and she will be deeply missed by all who were privileged to know her.
