Melba Sue Cummings Sewell

Melba Sue Cummings Sewell, 88, of Cobbtown, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at her residence.

Born in Tennessee on November 21, 1937, Melba was the daughter of Roy G. “Buck” Cummings and Ruby Kate Link Cummings. After living in Florida for a period of time, she moved to Cobbtown in 1972. Melba enjoyed sewing, cooking, and gardening. She was a faithful member of Cobbtown Baptist Church.

Melba was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 40 years, Rayburn “Buddy” Sewell; several siblings; two daughters, Beverly Jarriel and Terry Ray; and two grandchildren, Michael Shawn Powell and Daniel Woods.

She is survived by her son, Steve “Steamboat” Sewell of Cobbtown; her daughters, Linda Woods (Charles) of Metter and Tammy Sikes (Tim) of Cobbtown; her grandchildren, Jaimey Morris, Kevin Sikes, Michelle Woods, Rebeccah Baker, Jessica Baugh, and Megan Eason; 11 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Anne Waters of Jesup.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Paul Moore officiating.

Interment will follow at Sunlight Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, from 10 o’clock in the morning until the time of the funeral at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel.
