Robert Eugene Howard, Jr.

Robert Eugene Howard, of Metter, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2026, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro.

Mr. Howard was born on September 4, 1947, in Savannah, Georgia, to Eugene Howard and Gertrude Hurst Howard. He was a 1965 graduate of Jenkins High School and lived in Savannah for most of his life before moving to Metter in 2014. He was a talented fabricator with Seaboard Coastline for over twenty years where he retired. He also fabricated for Howards Neon Sign Company along with Jordan Sign Company for another thirty years. Mr. Howard was a faithful member of New Life Baptist Church in Metter.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Howard; son, Robert Howard, Jr. (Cathy); his daughter, Teresa Odums; his stepsons, Derick Cowart (Ruth) and Stephen Cowart (April); his sister, Gail Tuten (Tommy); seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 31, 2026, at New Life Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 9:00 until 10:00 a.m. at the church prior to the service.

Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Savannah.
