Spencer G. Beckum

Mar 9, 1950 — Aug 9, 2026

Statesboro, GA.

Spencer Gerelle Beckum, 76, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 9, 2026. Born on March 9, 1950, in Jefferson County, Georgia, Spencer spent most of his life in Statesboro, Georgia, before enjoying his retirement years at their lake home at Clarke Hill Lake.

Spencer attended Brewton-Parker College, and on June 30, 1973, Spencer married the love of his life, Vicki Welch Beckum. He graduated from Georgia Southern in 1975 and earned his Master's in School Psychology in 1981. He spent 30 years with the Bulloch County Board of Education, serving in various roles before retiring as an Administrator. He continued his career, also working for Communities in Schools, while spearheading several grants, including Drug-Free Bulloch.

He had a tremendous impact through his volunteer work for the CORE Credit Union by serving as a member of the board of directors for over 35 years. Under his leadership as Chairman of the Board, the Credit Union experienced tremendous growth and expanded its facilities in Brooklet and Statesboro.

Spencer was a lifelong, avid Georgia Southern football fan. He could be found cheering on his Eagles in Paulson Stadium and around the country. He spent many years chasing his sons around baseball fields and was an ever-loyal follower of the Atlanta Braves. In retirement, he loved spending days floating (or speeding) on a boat or jet ski on Clarke Hill Lake before eventually returning to Statesboro.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Gerelle Beckum and Rebie Prescott Beckum.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Vicki; his sons, Adam (Nicole) Beckum and Daniel Beckum; and his cherished grandson, Kallen Beckum; his god-children, Landon, Elijah, and Kyle; his sister, June Beckum; his aunt, Edith Usry; and numerous cousins.
