Virginia Mercer

Virginia Mercer, “Pen”, age 88, a resident of Metter, passed away peacefully, Sunday February 08, 2026, at her home.

Virginia was born in Tattnall County on August 03, 1937, to the late Ivey and Bertie Kicklighter Page. Coming from Stillmore, Virginia lived in Metter for about thirty years. She worked in the local grocery store when it was Piggly Wiggly and she also worked in the cafeteria with the Candler County Board of Education. Virginia was a Charter Member of Cedar Street Baptist Church. She adored her children and grandchildren. She was an amazing cook, seamstress and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vernon Mercer; a daughter, Della M. Youngblood; two sisters, Louise Crooms “Aunt Fudge” and infant, Charlotte Page and two brothers, James Otis and Shelton Mack Page, “Bull”.

Survivors include a son, Lamar Mercer; grandchildren, Tiffany Griggs (Caleb) of Hartsville, SC, Beau Youngblood (Hannah) of Metter, Rhett Youngblood (Tiffanie) of Metter and Dustin Mercer (Jennifer) of Metter; 12 Great Grandchildren, Hendley, Hamp, Hunt, Zach, Olivia, Hutson, Brooke, Maggie, Anna Lisa, John Aiden, Peyton Daniel and Della; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 12, 2026 from 10 to 11:00 am at Cedar Street Baptist Church of Metter.

The funeral service will be conducted Thursday, February 12, 2026, at 11:00 am at Cedar Street Baptist Church with Reverend Bo Fulginiti officiating. Pallbearers will be Grandsons and Great Grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers will be Kenny Davis and the Members of the Mary Sunday School Class.

Burial will follow in the Primitive Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Kennedy Funeral Homes-Metter.
