Walter "Walt" Whittle, 57, of Cobbtown died Friday at his home after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Born in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of the late Harold and Mallie Cook Whittle, he moved to Cobbtown in 2005 from Tennessee. Walt served in the 101st Airborne Division in Fort Campbell, KY and was later employed by Whirlpool for over 15 years. While living in Freemont for many years, he was very active in The Fraternal Order of Eagles, VFW and the Freemont Moose Lodge.
Walt loved music, people and dogs, especially his golden retriever assistance dog, "Murphy" who preceded him in death. His greatest pleasure was in being Daddy and Grandaddy.
Survivors are two daughters, Mallie (Jeremey) Adams of Bellevue, Ohio and Courtney (Darren) Brink of Ellsworth, ME; four grandchildren, Ella, Myra, Quinn and Sullivan; a brother, John (Darlene) Whittle of Cobbtown; two sisters, Sandra (Bruce) Brookshire of Florida and Midge Bennett of Maryland; his Cobbtown nieces, Kelly, Caitlan and Rachael Perry.
Funeral services will be held Friday, 11:00 AM, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, with Rev. Joey Holloway officiating. Burial will be in the Connors Cemetery. Military Honors will be observed. Visitation will be Thursday, 6-8 PM, at the funeral home. Remembrances may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, www.nationalmssociety.org or the Assistance Dogs of America, www.adai.org.
