Barbara Ann Bishop Thompson Obituary

Barbara Ann Bishop Thompson, 78, of Portal and widow of Thomas “Tommy” Thompson, passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at her residence.

Born in Birmingham, Alabama, she was a daughter of William Theodore Bishop and Lucille Mardene Roberson Bishop.   Mrs. Thompson was a member of New Life Baptist Church where she was formerly a Sunday School Teacher of Hallelujah Disciples Sunday School Class.  Mrs. Thompson was a homemaker, and her passions were her church, reading, and music. She received her bachelor’s degree from Southwestern University in Roswell, New Mexico.  In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Tracy Lane Thompson.

Surviving are two sons, Tommy Lee Thompson and Terrell Lyle Thompson both of Portal; her brother, Melvin “Eddie” Bishop of Guyton and Phyllis Wilson of Bloomingdale; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 2 o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at New Life Baptist Church in Metter with Rev. Rusty Rushing officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1 o’clock until the hour of the funeral at the Church on Tuesday.

Interment will be in Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery and will be private.
