Brian McGowan Obituary

Harry “Brian” McGowan,65, of Metter, passed away after a short illness early Sunday morning, March 24, 2024 at Community Hospice in Vidalia.

Brian was born in Statesboro and was a lifelong resident of Candler County and the Ollifftown community.  He grew up going to church at Rosemary Primitive Baptist Church with his sisters Violet and Angie and parents, George W. and Mary Ann McNair McGowan.  He was a 1977 graduate of Metter High School and after graduation he began farming.  He later went to work for the Georgia Forestry Commission at the Candler Office and worked there for over sixteen years.  Later, he and his wife Lori, owned and operated Brian’s Oak Tree Express from 2000-2010.  In recent years, he tended the family pecan and timber farm.  Brian was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Lori Lanier McGowan of Metter; his son Matt McGowan and his wife, Jessica, of Metter; his daughter, Marlie McGowan Hilton, and her husband, Matt, of Vidalia; his sisters, Violet Coleman and her husband, Barry, of Vidalia and Angie Franklin and her husband, Brad, of Metter; his grandchildren, Jase McGowan, Saylor McGowan, and James Hilton; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at 3’oclock in the afternoon at Rosemary Primitive Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends at the church from 1 o’clock until 3 o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, March 26, 2024.

Interment will be in Rosemary Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
