Edwin "Ed" Burns Obituary

Edwin “Ed” Burns, 82, of Cobbtown, died early Tuesday morning, February 4, 2020 at Community Hospice in Vidalia.

Born in Cobbtown, he was a son of Bruce and Vera Dowd Burns.  Mr. Burns moved to Augusta many years ago and returned to the Cobbtown area in 2003.  He grew up in the Hillside Church of God and during his years in Augusta, was a member of Crawford Avenue Church of God where he served as an usher.  In recent years, Mr. Burns attended Liberty Community Church in Hazlehurst.  Mr. Burns worked as a welder for over thirty-two years with Augusta Iron and Steel.  He loved fishing and farming and was happiest when he was in his boat or on his tractor at his farm.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Burns was preceded in death by the love of his life, Treecy Leggett Burns.

Surviving are his wife, Ernestine “Tine” Burns of Cobbtown; a son and daughter-in-law, Kim and Tracy Burns of Augusta; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sheila and Chris Chavous of Grovetown and Sharon and Tommy Rauton of Lyons; a brother, Gordon Burns of Statesboro; a sister and brother-in-law, Thelma and Robert Watson of Metter; two grandchildren, Nicholas Luke and his wife, Courtney of Conyers and Bethany Luke and her fiancé, Ryan Taylor of Vidalia; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Friday, February 7, 2020 beginning at 5 o’clock in the evening at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel.

The funeral will be held Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 11 o’clock in the morning at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel.

Interment will be in Sunlight Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Nicholas Luke, Joel Watson, Jeffrey Williamson, Thomas Richardson, Christian Williamson, and Ryan Taylor.

Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
