Elizabeth Phillips Obituary

Elizabeth Ann (Poelmann) Phillips, 95, was called home to her heavenly Father, Wednesday , July 1, 2020.  She passed away peacefully under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice, her loving daughter Kathleen Daughtry and caregiver Lulu Busby of Nightengale’s Home Health.

Elizabeth met the love of her life, our father, Lester Paul Phillips while serving in the Marine Corp (WWII) at Paris Island, S.C. They both served proudly. Mom told the Hospice Army Chaplin who came to visit” I would go back to the Marines today”. Our mom was one proud Marine.  Our family is proud of all the family members who have served and currently serving our country. Elizabeth and Lester are celebrating their 74th anniversary on July 6th together in heaven. Elizabeth was a stay at home wife and mom in her early years. She was a banking professional in the later years.  Elizabeth faithfully attended Holy Family Church in Metter until she could no longer physically attend.  However, she woke up every morning at the exact time (8 am) to watch Mass on EWTN.  That would start her day off with God in her heart and put a smile on her face. Elizabeth, our mom, our friend, and Our Rock of Gilbrater. She will be greatly missed forever and was the happiest when she was with her children and grandchildren.  Her children felt blessed with a forever friend and mom.  Mom was a very strong woman with a heart of gold. She, in her earlier years, loved playing golf with her sisters and their husbands.  She would often beat her husband at golf.  She was funny and always made everyone laugh.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Lillian Poelmann of Racine Wisconsin, brother, Herman (Bud) WWII Purple Heart Recipient, sister; Lois Fox, her daughters; Nancy Raker and Barbara Grant, one son; Paul Phillips; one grandchild, Kirby Grant.

Surviving are her children: Kathleen and Randy Daughtry, Patricia and Jim Meade, Collen and Paul Dobos, Beth Phillips and Kevin Phillips, sisters; Lucille Kreling and  Maxine Shoop. Elizabeth loved and bragged of her grandchildren; Kevin O’Neil, Tommy Grant and Bobbie Arthur, Todd Raker, Kirby Holliday, Mason Meade; Elizabeth Paul and Peter Phillips; Sarah Dobos, Paul Dobos, and Mark Dobos; John and Nicholas Weber; Kailin Prince and Kep Phillips, Beverly Williams, Becky Camps and Ellie Jo Phillips. Elizabeth was blessed with 32 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She loved seeing pictures of all of them.

“There are times when only a Mother’s faith

Can help us on life’s way

And inspire in us the confidence

We need from day to day.

For a Mother’s heart and a Mother’s faith

And a Mother’s steadfast love

Were fashioned by the Angels

And sent from God above”.
