Frances Mercer Rooks Obituary

Frances M. Rooks of Metter, Ga passed away Friday, June 17, 2022 at Cedar Plantation after a brief illness. She was born to Eula and Mack Mercer in 1928, in the Ollifftown Community. Frances married Robert F. Rooks in 1945 and moved to Washington state until he was discharged from the Army in 1946. They returned to Metter briefly, where their only son Ronich (Ron) was born. The Rooks family then moved to Augusta, where Frances spent the entirety of her career at Piedmont Wood Preserving, a division of IT&T.  Once she retired, she and Robert F (John) moved back to Metter, where she worked for Concerted Services for 10 years. She truly enjoyed her time there and made many sweet friends.

Of all her accomplishments, she was most proud of her family. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, Kelli and Brian, and great-grandchildren, Evan and Lacey. She had a special relationship with her sisters and brother, Janelle, Melba and Grayson. She loved spending special holidays with her beloved nieces and nephews.

The world will be a lesser place without her perpetual smile and positive attitude.  All those that knew her in the community, at work and even the sweet nurses at Cedar Plantation said she always had a smile on her face, and never complained. Frances was a true southern lady; always dressed and accessorized perfectly. She was preceded in death by her husband, RF Rooks, her mother and father, Mack and Eula Mercer, sister Melba Lanier and brother Grayson Mercer.

Surviving are her son and daughter in law, Ron and Diane Rooks, granddaughter and her husband, Kelli and Andy Crowder, grandson, Brian Rooks and great grandchildren, Evan and Lacey Crowder.

The service will be June 19, 2022 at 3 o’clock at Rosemary Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Greg Lanier officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 o’clock in the afternoon until the time of the funeral at the church.

Interment will be in Rosemary Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
