Obituary

Genevieve “Gennie” Naomi Kennedy, 95, of Cobbtown, Georgia and Shellmans Bluff, went to be with her heavenly home on Sunday, August 20, 2023.

Mrs. Kennedy was born February 15, 1928 in Jacksonville, Florida and was a daughter of Otto Huler Clifton and Maybelle Grooms Clifton.  Gennie also had a brother, Hubert Clifton.

She grew up in Florence, South Carolina living with a cousin, Thelma McLeod, shortly before World War II at the age of twelve.  Thelma quickly became her second mother.  Her daughters Jackie and Thelma Victoria “Doll” quickly adopted her as a little sister.

Gennie met her husband while working as a Teletype Operator with Civil Service at Camp Stewart.  She married her husband Bobby Kennedy in September of 1951 and they built a home together in Cobbtown in 1961.  Gennie worked as a full-time bookkeeper from 1965 until her retirement in 1990.

After retirement they built another home at Julienton Landing near Shellmans Bluff, Georgia.  She seasonally moved between the houses up to present time.

She was a member of Cobbtown Baptist Church and was an inspiration to everyone she knew.  Her knowledge of the Bible was paramount in her love for Christ.  She was the person to go to for any details of specifics of the bible.  Her bible was loaded with notes, dates of her studies of the Bible.

After her husband retired from the Postal Service, they built a home in Shellmans Bluff and moved to the coast. Early on, they would stay at the coast during the summer and come back to their home in Cobbtown for the winter. After her husband died, Gennie continued to live at the coast until her children didn’t want her living there alone.

She enjoyed fishing with her husband, Bobby Kennedy, family and friends and her grandchildren. They welcomed all family and friends to come to Shellmans Bluff and fish.  She also enjoyed cooking for family and friends. She was an avid reader and spent many hours and years studying the Bible. She had a thirst of knowledge and always stayed up to date in her technology whether it was phones or computers.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Bobby Kennedy.

Surviving are her daughter Nina and her husband Jimmy, a son Clifton Lee Kennedy and his wife Wanda, a son Robert Bird (Buddy), and a son John Fisher Kennedy and his wife Judy.
