James Lamb Obituary

James Edward Lamb, 84, of Metter, died Monday, February 17, 2020 at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah.

Mr. Lamb was born and lived in Candler County most of his life and was a member of Metter First Baptist Church.  He was the Sunday School Teacher for the Mary and Joseph Sunday School Class, served on several committees at the church, and drove the church bus when needed.  He was active in the church choir for several years.  

Mr. Lamb worked for many years in electronics for several different companies, some of which worked with NASA on various projects.  He was a farmer and was a recipient of the Centennial Farm Award for Georgia. Mr. Lamb was a retired E8 Master Sgt with the Army National Guard where he worked for over twenty-eight years.  While in the Army National Guard, he served as a Survey Chief. 

Mr. Lamb was a member of the Candler County Historical Society, where he served as Building Restoration Chairman, and received the Historian of the Year for Candler County.  He volunteered for The American Red Cross and was awarded the Outstanding Disaster Services Volunteer Award.  Mr. Lamb was a member of Gideons International of Metter where he was involved in Bible distribution.  

He loved to fly and in years past held a pilot’s license for small aircraft.  Mr. Lamb was an avid woodworker and enjoyed square dancing. He loved his family and was known by his grandchildren as “Pop”.

Surviving are his wife, Faye Battles Lamb of Metter; three daughters, Gwenda Rotton (Mickey) of Metter, Linda Johnson (Greg) of Lyons, and Brenda Deal (Jeff) of Metter; six grandchildren, Holley Adams (Josh) of Clermont, Rebekah Lovell (John) of Woodstock, Jared Johnson (Amanda) of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Coleman Johnson (Samantha) of Athens, Noah Deal of Metter, and Rachel Deal of Metter; four great-grandchildren, Hudson Adams, Maggie Adams, JohnLucas Lovell, and Judah Lovell; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 19, 2020 from 5 until 7 o’clock in the evening at Metter First Baptist Church.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, February 20, 2020 at 2 o’clock in the afternoon at Metter First Baptist Church.

Interment will be in El Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Emanuel County.

Pallbearers will be Josh Adams, John Lovell, Jared Johnson, Coleman Johnson, Noah Deal, and Brian Davis.

Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Mary and Joseph Sunday School Class and members of the Metter Gideons.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gideons International, P.O. Box 542, Metter, Georgia, 30439 in memory of James Edward Lamb.
