Larry Usry, Sr. Obituary

Larry Randall Usry Sr.  age 76 passed away at his Metter, Georgia home under hospice care after a long battle with cancer.

Born in Savannah, Georgia he attended Savannah High School and graduated early in 1961.  He worked as an usher at the old Lucas theater during his high school years and also as a painter. At the age of 21 he joined the Savannah Police Department in 1965 and served until 1987.  He was a proud member of The Fraternal Order Of Police and also Police Officers Association of Georgia. He retired to Candler County and spent his days landscaping his property and creating fish ponds. He had many wildlife friends such as hawks, turtles and alligators that he was proud to feed out of his hand to the amusement of visitors. His happiest times were spent with Mike Shelby, Stuart Stallings and Shannon Shelby of the gospel group Eternal Vision.  Larry is responsible for the first introduction of Eternal Vision to the Metter, Georgia area.  The last year and a half of his life was spent with his best friend and partner Deannie Bowen Jones Marsh and getting lost in the woods or backroads during their adventures to find a great restaurant. He did not meet many people that did not like him.  His sense of humor was a little too much at times, but he kept it until his final days. Some of his final words were "This is amazing", as he spoke of his wife and other deceased people such as Gail Shelby coming into the room to welcome him home to the arms of Christ.
