Mary Elizabeth Johnson Long Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Johnson Long, 63, passed away from illness at her home surrounded by loving family. Mary was the youngest child born to the late Carlton R. and Irene M. Johnson on December 30, 1959 in coastal Brunswick, GA . She spent her formative years with her brother, the late Carlton R. Jr. “Junior”, and sister, Lynnette Carnes, fishing out on the boat, visiting the beach, and gathering with close family and friends.

Mary graduated from Glynn Academy with the class of 1978 and began her 31 year long career with the business department of the Glynn County Board of Education. In 1985, at a church convention she met her future husband, Tim Long, whom she remained married to until her passing, six days shy of their 37th wedding anniversary. In 1987, they welcomed their first child, the late TJ Long, with Bethany Long following four years later.

Mary was a nurturing, compassionate mother and a dutiful, loving wife. She was an avid photographer who preferred to be behind the camera, rather in front of it. She filled her time being creative, crafting gifts for those around her. While Mary had a talent for piano, nothing made her smile more than hearing others play in the home. Her favorite retreat was the beach, with the sound of the waves and the softness of the sand. Mary loved by giving; whether it be a home cooked meal or lending a helping hand. At a tender age, Mary committed to a life of faithfully following Christ and sharing that love in fellowship was her greatest service. She cherished every moment spent with their granddaughter, Addison Long, and their maltese, Mini Grace. Mary is known by many for her sweet spirit, love for Christ, and self-effacing nature.

Mary will be greatly missed by her husband, Tim Long, Bethany Long (daughter), Addison Long (granddaughter), Lynnette (sister) and Ted Carnes (brother-in-law), Steve (brother-in-law) and Linda Long (sister-in-law), along with a multitude of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jeff Byrd, Jim Klepzig, Myron Pincomn, Tad Thompson, Darrell O’Brien, Freddie Bacon, Jason Trotter, and Stan Trotter will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include Steve Miller, Jack Palmer, Francis Nelson, Marvin Clark, Francisco Angulo, and Fred Bacon.

The family will receive friends and loved ones Saturday morning at 10 a.m. for visitation with service following in the chapel at 11 a.m. officiated by George Lee and Charles Vaughn. Visitation and service will be held by Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home of Brunswick, GA. Graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. at the Thain Cemetery in Metter, GA. www.edomillerandsons.com
