Rufus "Danny (Two Dog)" Rewis Obituary

Rufus “Danny (Two Dog)” Rewis, 71, of Collins, Georgia passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.

Danny was born on February 21, 1953, as the son of Rufus and Eula Oliver Rewis, in Collins, Georgia. Danny was a well-known lifelong member of the Collins community. During the early years of the Collins development when they established the fire station, Danny was one of the first volunteers to join their team. For many years he ran the service shop in Collins, Ga with his father. He retired from the Millwright Union after many years working as a superintendent. He was a longtime member of the Cobbtown Masonic Lodge. Danny was an amazing musician with many talents. He could play any instrument that he got his hands on, but he was especially good at playing the guitar, banjo, steel guitar, and the mandolin. He touched many people through the music he played and also by teaching others to play music. While Danny was in high school, he was a part of a band named “The Vibrations” and then he later went on to become a member of the “Black Water Band.” Later in life he became a part of the “New Hymnsman” band as well as the band that he loved being part of with his daughter, Samantha, called “Cherokee Ridge.”  In 2018, Danny was the leader of the “Double Eagle Band” that won a Georgia Country Music Award for Traditional Band of the Year. He was very successful in his musical career and was even offered a record deal personally, but he would never leave his band behind. Danny was a selfless and caring man that will be missed by many. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Janice Anderson.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Rewis; daughters, Samantha “Snowfeather” (Tripp) Parker and Stephanie Shiflett; a son, DJ “Thundercloud” (Kristi Martin) Rewis; grandchildren, Adelyn “Wind Littlehawk” Parker, Peyton “Whitecloud” Rewis, Connor “Thunder Hawk” Rewis, Christian Shiflett, Grayson Dillon, and Raygon Mallon; his sisters, Hazel Spell, Vivian Hughes, and Betty Beckum; and several nieces and nephews.
