Willie Alton "Al" Kemp Obituary

Willie Alton “Al” Kemp of Hephzibah and formerly of Metter, died Friday, June 10, 2022 at Candler County Hospital in Metter.

Born in Metter he was a son of the late Kidd and Annie Mae Kemp.  Al was a 1967 graduate of Metter High School and was a member of Metter First Baptist Church.  He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Vietnam War.  Al married Rhonda Shanks on April 27, 1985.  He and Rhonda moved to Hephzibah several years ago and he worked for Master Buick GMC in Augusta as a sales consultant. He loved fishing and hunting.  Al loved taking care of people and he always put others first.  Al loved the Georgia Bulldogs, the Atlanta Braves, and NASCAR.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an older brother, W.R. Kemp.

Surviving are his wife, Rhonda S. Kemp of Hephzibah; two daughters, Jessica Kamyl Kemp of Metter and Courtney Kemp Fowler (Rodney) of Statesboro; his brothers, Carlton Kemp (Carol) of Savannah and Bobby Kemp of Metter; his sisters, Joyce Franklin (Ned) of Metter, Edna Brinson of Metter, and Annette Bruner (William) of Metter; one grandchild, Emberlyn Frost McConaha; several nieces and nephews; and his special cat, Flossie.

Visitation will be held from 10 until 11 o’clock in the morning on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at Metter First Baptist Church.

The funeral will be held 11 o’clock in the morning, Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at Metter First Baptist Church with Rev. Ray Woodcock officiating and Rev. Tom Osborne assisting.

Interment will be in Lake Cemetery.

The family will be gathering at the home of Edna Brinson, 245 Cedar Street in Metter.

Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, of Metter is in charge of the arrangements.
