Margaret Warren Reeves

Mrs. Margaret Warren Reeves, 90, of Waycross passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 18, 2016.  She was a teacher, librarian, and educator in Ware and Pierce counties for 40 plus years.

Mrs. Reeves was an Elder and longtime member of First Presbyterian Church of Waycross, was active in various church committees and in many leadership roles.  She was a Sunday School Teacher for the Women’s Bible Class. She and her husband, the late Herbert Lee Reeves, served as co-chairman of the First Presbyterian VISPs (Very Important Senior Presbyterians).

Margaret was born at home in Winter Haven, Florida on March 04, 1926, to the late Charles Leo Warren and Susie McCormick Warren.  The family later moved to Pulaski, Georgia in Candler County where she graduated from Pulaski High School.

She received a B.A. degree in Business Education from Georgia Teachers College (GTC) now Georgia Southern University in Statesboro.  Her children loved hearing her story of being chosen May Queen while at Georgia Southern!

Mrs. Reeves met her future husband, Herbert Lee “Coach” Reeves while both were students at GTC.  They were married August 25, 1951. 

She began teaching Business Education at Pulaski High School and later taught at both Waresboro and Hoboken High School before teaching at Waycross Vocational now  Coastal Pines Technical College.

Margaret and her husband, Herb, attended George Peabody College for Teachers, now Peabody College of Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee in 1952-53, were full-time graduate students and earned Masters Degrees.  Mrs. Reeves received Masters Degrees in both Business Education and Library Science.

She served as the Assistant Director for the Okefenokee Regional Library for 21 years.  Afterwards she became Media Specialist of Ware Street School in Blackshear where she retired in 1991.

Margaret Reeves was a member of the Waycross-Ware County Retired Teachers Association and a Life member of the Georgia Retired Teachers Association.  In addition, she was a Life member of Delta Pi Epsilon, now known as the Association for Research in Business Education (ARBE-DPE)

She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and also a Life member of both Bulloch and Candler County’s Historical Associations.  

Margaret enjoyed reading, playing bridge and managing timber.

Mrs. Reeves was preceded in death by her parents and husband.  Survivors include her brother Harry Warren (and his wife, Sue), Pulaski; a son, William “Billy” Reeves (and his wife Sandra), Waycross; a daughter, Renee Reeves Webb (and her husband, Mark), Rome; one granddaughter, Ailsa Renee Webb, Rome; and several nephews and other relatives.

The family will receive friends in the Social Hall at Waycross First Presbyterian Church, Sunday, October 23rd immediately following the Sunday morning worship service with a memorial service at 1:30.  A graveside service will then follow in Pulaski, Georgia at the Lake Cemetery at 5pm.

The family requests the Elders of the Church to meet at 1:15 to serve as honorary pallbearers.
