Marlene Daughtry

Marlene Pruett Daughtry of Metter, and widow of Hubert Daughtry, died early Monday morning, March 6, 2017 at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah.

Born in Dodge County, Georgia, she was a daughter of Morrison and Alice Pruett.  She was a 1949 graduate of Chauncey High School where she was valedictorian. She attended Middle Georgia College and graduated from the University of Georgia with a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education.   Mrs. Daughtry was a retired elementary school teacher whose passion was to teach children to read.  She taught in several school districts including Mendes, Screven County, and Brunswick schools.  After retirement from teaching she worked with her son, Hu, in his business, Sierra Healthcare, and later served as office manager at her daughter Susan’s practice at Candler Psychological services.  Mrs. Daughtry and her husband, Hubert moved to Metter in 1999.  She was a member of El Bethel Baptist Church and attended Metter Primitive Baptist Church.  She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and just recently became a great-grandmother.  She enjoyed fishing, cooking, baking, sewing, reading and growing flowers, but her favorite activity was to spend time with her grandchildren and attend their school and sports events.  Mrs. Daughtry was an avid Atlanta Braves Fan.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Hubert Daughtry, and her brother, Mac Pruett.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Susan, and Robert Ferrell of Metter; her son and daughter in law, Robert “Hu” and Susan Daughtry of Metter; grandchildren, Raef Ferrell and his wife, Alicia, Ridge Ferrell, and Sierra Daughtry; and a great-grandson, Sawyer Robert Ferrell.

Visitation will be held Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel.

Interment will follow in the Daughtry Family Cemetery.
